Local Info:
The nearest town is Wellington (4 miles away) with the a range of independent retailers, cafés, restaurants and supermarkets (Asda, Co-op and Waitrose) so you might like to pick up a few supplies on your way. You can also arrange for your groceries to be delivered, but we would ask that you try to select a delivery time after your planned arrival time.
Eating out:
If eating out we recommend the Culm Valley Inn or the Holywell Inn, charming local pubs approximately 5 miles and 2 miles away respectively, both with excellent food, real ales and log fire (can be popular so wise to book). Other options maybe the Poachers Pocket 3 miles away. If you are looking for fine dining The Masons Arms, a bit of a drive (30 minutes) but worth it in my opinion (works well if on your way back from a trip to the wild beaches of the north Devon coast) There are also many options in both Taunton and Exeter (30 minute drive)
Walking & Cycling:
We have been asked by many guests about the walking and cycling potential in this area. We are a stones throw from the start of the Grand Western Canal. This flat, leafy path gently takes you through four villages and on to Tiverton over a distance of 11 miles. There are also many foot paths and mountain bike tracks in nearby Exmoor National Park, Black Down Hills, Quantock Hills and Dartmoor National park. I should also mention we are less than an hour from both north and south coasts which both offer a variety of options.
Country houses and National Trust Gardens:
Another popular option if short of things to do is a gentle wonder around one of the beautiful gardens open to the public. Cothay Manor being the closest (1.5miles)http://www.cothaymanor.co.uk. Knightshayes Nation Trust house and gardens is definitely worth a look (http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/knightshayes/). With beautiful house, wonderful garden and grounds and a lovely cafe full of delicious cakes that are hard to resist.
